You can reach the Elba Island by embarking on a ferry boat at Piombino Marittima. There are two navigation companies, Toremar and Moby Lines, that go directly from Piobino to Portoferraio in one hour.
The other alternative is to take the hydroplane which is much quicker, 35 minutes in total although it only transports passengers.

- By Car
From the North: Departing from Milan on the A1 super highway then the A15 Parma West super highway up to the A12 Genova-Livorno highway exit at Rosignano and follow the Aurelia highway up to Venturina-Elba island. Embark on the ferry boat to Piombino Marittima.
From the North-East: A1 Bologna-Florence-Pisa-Livorno super highway, exit at Rosignano, follow the Aurelia highway up to Venturina-Elba island and embark on the ferry boat to Piombino Marittima.
From the south: A12 Rome-Grosseto super highway to the Aurelia highway, exit at Venturina-Elba island and embark on the ferry boat to Piombino Marittima.

- By train
Arrive and depart from the Piombino Marittima station.

- By bus
Grand Turism bus transfer form Milan (Milan – Piombino and return). This bus line departs from various locations in the city of Milan and hinterland. Tickets can be purchased in Piazza Castello at the main ticket counter location. (for information and bus time schedule call SISA tel: 0371 44 911).

- By Plane
It is possible to reach the island also by plane; in fact there is an airport on the Elba Island in proximity of Marina di Campo, in the town of La Pila, where, connections with various Italian and European cities are active.
