Cape Madonna
The second point after the port of Marciana Marina is Cape Madonna, whose headland extends for about a hundred meters towards the open sea and represents a very large dive site.
Underwater, the seabed features a second submerged headland slightly detached from the coast, and it is here that we will moor for the first dive profile.
We descend along the inner side of the wall, “jumping” from one terrace to another and then follow the wall that drops towards the open sea. We find a rocky plateau at about 30 meters depth, then the wall continues towards the blue, well beyond 40 meters, but for this profile we will choose to turn left, entering an impressive longitudinal canyon completely fragmented by horizontal cracks. Here lobsters, conger eels and moray eels find shelter in these very colorful crevices, completely covered with sponges and sea daisies (Parazoanthus).
Following this gully we reach a plateau enclosed between two rocks, where a statue of Christ has been placed, now colonized by marine organisms, contrasting with the yellow/orange of the Parazoanthus behind it. From here we move towards the coast to conclude our dive, exploring the crevices of the wall, where it is not uncommon to surprise small lobsters and moray eels (3 cm) or specimens of hermit crab (Dardanus arrosor) “carrying around” its anemones on its carapace.
