Elba Island

Spizzichino Place

To the south-east of Capo Enfola we can see another large rock detached from the coast, Lo Spizzichino, a simple but very enjoyable dive site. The rock provides perfect shelter for anchoring on days when a strong Mistral is blowing and allows us to carry out a pleasant dive even in less than perfect sea conditions.

We descend along the south side and skirt the rock, keeping on our left a vast Posidonia meadow over which huge schools of salema move.

We reach the outer drop-off and follow it to the maximum depth point (about 22 meters). Here, in every indentation, we discover something different: conger eels and moray eels sharing the same den, large octopus roaming around, curious small groupers and a very wide range of nudibranchs (Flabellina, Cratena peregrina, Hypselodoris), while around us schools of seabream and saddled seabream swim.

The route is varied and it is possible either to return along the south side or to circumnavigate the rock by entering canyons colored orange by Parazoanthus, which create very impressive light effects.
