Elba Island

Three Peaks

On the west side of Cape Enfola we find Le Tre Secche. Three pinnacles rising from the seabed towards the surface.

Generally, the descent is made on the one closest to shore, which is also the shallowest (about 12 meters), then the other two are circumnavigated to reach a beautiful ledge that drops from 18 down to 40 meters. These pinnacles are also covered with yellow gorgonians (Eunicella cavolini) and, being a site with current, it is very easy to encounter various types of colorful nudibranchs such as Cratena peregrina and different Flabellina species, in addition to the usual octopus and moray eels.

At around 40 meters we are in the realm of lobsters, but here it is not difficult to spot other nudibranchs such as the sea cow (Discodoris atromaculata) or crustaceans such as squat lobsters.

We are still in the Cape Enfola area, so we scan the blue to spot the passage of some tuna, even of considerable size, or a school of large barracuda now resident at this dive site.

The return is made by varying the route around the three pinnacles, where there are several sections of snagged nets, now encrusted with various marine microorganisms and where beautiful feather duster worms stand out.
